It is getting harder to have our blog done on time at the moment.
Our days are full of adventures and the evenings are spent with fabulous food and lots of laughs with our whole family and Tinas mum and dad.
Todays adventure takes us to Düsseldorf, about forty five minutes away.
Our first impression of the city is it really green and quite pretty.
We spent some time in the morning at the Schloss Jägerhoff, a beautifully restored castle, that is housing an exhibition of a chap named Goethe.
A very clever writer who was very interested in the sciences, he was fascinated with colour also and did many experiments with how the brain/ eyes interpret colour.
I did also notice a couple of Salvadore Dali framed sketches on the wall too.
All in all a very interesting museum.
Out the window of the museum, you could see a very pretty promenade, sadly its a pretty dismal day but we walk through it on our way to the modern city centre.
We walk along the Königallee, ( also known as Kö) which is a boulevard full of all the high end shops and a couple of shopping centres. It extends just over a kilometre and is also characterised by a beautiful moat and lots of bridges linking both sides of moat.
Lunch today is taken in a small market (Carls Platz der market) that is bordering on the old town.
I have never seen so many different types of potato.
We had some sushi and Ramen and i’m sure the guy that was serving us was Australian.
It’s time to investigate the old town and head towards the Rhine.
We take a few circles looking for a coffee shop, again recommended by Tina and its was very cool and the coffee great.
The lanes and alley ways are quite small but there is plenty to see including Wibbel the tailor, a statue of him is embedded in the wall( rub it for good luck) and he also has a music box that plays several times a day and we missed each one.
We walked along the promenade on the banks of the Rhine, lots of bars and Restaurants and also a tremendous view across the river to the Oberkassel district. Lots of pretty houses.
Rhine Tower ( communication tower)
One of the prettiest squares is along here and it is bordered by more pretty houses and also The Schlossturm Tower ( palace tower)
There is an annual Radschlag (cartwheel) competition in Düsseldorf.
We soon founds the Düssel river, or the remnants of it as most of now travels under the town.
Beside it is an interesting statue outlining events that allowed the beginnings of Düsseldorf in 1288!
Time is getting on and we still haven't been to the Landgericht Brewery that produces a dark beer.
So off we go.
The same system that we enjoyed in the Frue in Cologne.
The beer was again delicious.
Home again, the boys all jumped in the spa pool with their beers
Another brilliant meal, lots food, lots of wine and just a wonderful time.
It certainly looks like a beautiful town. So good to see that you're having such a wonderful time with everyone xx
