Day 2 of N in a N

We woke to a very foggy and cold morning, back to our negative temperatures.





And seriously, who knew that Voss was a ski resort? Certainly not us.
Until we see so many international travellers all here for the snow and heading up the mountain on the gondola, including school kids

We’re kind of sad to leave here as we have been taken in by the old world charm of this hotel, but leave we must.
Quick walk to the bus stop and horrified to see so many people lined up, thankfully they thought ahead and there were two buses to take us to Gudvangen
Where we will catch a boat to tour the Nærodfjord.
From an expert, its 1000m up the mountains and 1000m underwater.
Who knows??

Anyhoo, I am getting way ahead of myself because the bus trip was epic in itself.
The snow, the villages, the frozen lakes the tiny paddocks ( growing what?) just absolutely magnificent.

















We went through a couple of long tunnels and surprisingly green and no snow when we came out the other side. Weird.

Arrived in Gudvangen to a lovely turf roofed building where could grab a quick coffee whilst we wait for the ferry. 





The ferry is all electric and very quiet except the noise of it cutting through the ice on the surface.







We had two hours of a peaceful journey through a fjord.
The small villages we pass but just the enormity and beauty of these mountains beside us is just jaw-dropping. 















About 2pm we arrive in the teeny tiny town of Flåm.
Only a few hundred residents live here but millions of people visit every year.



We checked in to our Hotel, another beauty and sitting right on the fjord

Took a wander to the museum, which was interesting, lots of history about the railway.
Generally wandered around the small town looking at shops etc.











Dinner tonight is in a Viking Restaurant next door that is also a brewery.





Great ambience, big central fire where we sat around drinking beer and chatting and then upstairs for a delicious dinner of ribs, so very Viking of us.

Walked the three and a half minutes back to our room.

    Another epic day! What incredible scenery. I've heard of Flam .. and now I've seen it! Looking distinctly cold there. Great photos 😁👍

Today i thought I would literally just sign off from the blog and recap and reflect. It’s a travel day (or two) and we know i’m not a big fan of those. Anyhoo, we started early, escorting James to Liverpool st Station to begin his epic journey home. More about that when we’re home but he is coming home a little earlier than planned. We will follow somewhat later today. Checked in with Harry and Tina. Tina was catching up with a friend for coffee this morning and Harry has one last little adventure for us. We caught our 26 bus down to the main financial district.  Bank of England ( only 300 years old), the Stock Exchange and London’s Magistrates Court. We had a great breakfast before heading into theBarbican. These ruins just outside the cafe. A church against the wall of London, built of course on a roman wall… I had no idea what this was, the Barbican that is but oh my, I feel I have landed in a parallel universe. Just one more sleep before we embark on an epic adventure and this one does not involve any tents!! The planning for this trip started as we would really like to see our Harry and his partner Tina (who happily live in the UK) Stuart then adds a conference that just happens to be in the Italian snowfields. I then figure, well, if we’re in the neighbourhood may as well tick of a bucket list journey. So that will take us to Norway. We will then return to London and Harry and Tina before flying to Cologne in Germany. Our Tina is German and her family have asked us to visit. So grab that cuppa and enjoy our (hopefully) daily posts.😊 Going to miss this tho.

After what seemed like an endless trip flying across the world, we finally made it to the UK and London. Our weary minds negotiating a very slick security and customs system at the airport had us sitting on the tube within 30 mins I guess. It’s about 7am and still very dark which is a little confusing. It’s about a 10 minute walk to Harry and Tina’s from the station and despite being laden down with loads of gear, it appears to be a bit chilly. We woke them up with our early arrival but what an absolute delight to see them both after so long. Quick chat and off to grab some coffee and pastries and other supplies. It is so very quiet considering today is a normal day, perhaps the Londoners resting up for their New Years celebrations. As a Christmas gift Harry presented us with a two day itinerary of our London New Year activities. We are both delighted by the thoughtfulness.
