Today is Day 1 of our Norway in a Nutshell adventure.

Train, bus, boat and train over 3 days.

Woke after a fitful sleep, although we did feel it rocking occasionally or not……

A great brekky and then loaded our gear onto our backs for the walk to the train station, about a kilometre or so.

We will be catching a train that is destined for Oslo but we are only taking as far as the town of Voss today.

As expected the scenery along side the train is spectacular although it is interrupted by a lot of tunnels 

It appears we travel beside a fjord as the water is wide and steep sided mountains.

Lots of little villages as expected and snow on the higher peaks.

As we get closer to Voss, it looks colder.

Lots of snow and the lakes are frozen at the edges. 

Dont see that everyday!

Arrived in Voss, check into Fleischers Hotel.

It is magnificent.

It is currently being run by the 5th generation in the line.

Lots of old world wood and evidence of its history everywhere.

We spent the afternoon wandering around the town, admiring the frozen lake, the gondola and all the para gliders risking life or limb as they jump off the mountain.

 Saw the church dating back to the 13th century, some additions with the timber spire, probably around the 17th century.

Back to our room for a little quiet time before deciding it’s time to take up the ambience in the bar.

Great timing as we were lucky enough to meet Gerd Fleischer.

What a delightful lady, full of great stories about this Hotel and her family of which she is extremely proud, rightly so.

Dinner in the bar this evening and i have indulged myself with Norways favourite dish.
