20th January 2025
Today has started as better day, certainly for me.
Able to get out of bed at least.
Woken early with the announcement that we will cross the Arctic circle.
Dress warmly they state and we will meet on the 7th floor shortly.
Some pretty colours when we get there.
So many people get-up early, which is great.
As the ship crosses the Arctic circle a pronounced blast from ships horn announced our arrival.
It’s actually very exciting and i think thats palpable from the crowd.
Baring in mind its still dark!
Champagne is offered but it’s a bit early i feel, although others dont.
Coming into Ørnes, which is just a quick stop.
The landscape is gorgeous.
We also get the opportunity to give Eva a wave, she is there everytime a Hurtigruten goes by giving the ship a wave.
Thats her waving from her deck in the photo below.
At 1030 there is a crossing of the Arctic circle ceremony and i believe the special guest for the event will be Norde himself ( the god of the sea or perhaps god of good weather)
We are prepared for this ceremony and just like when we crossed the Antarctic circle, i am prepared to decline.
Stuart on the other hand is all for it as this will complete all his crossing of the 5 major circles of latitude, these being of course, antarctic and arctic circles, tropics of capricorn and cancer and the equator.
And now he’s just showing off!
This afternoon we dock in Bodø, which seems like quite a large city.
Happy to get off ship and walk into town to stretch our legs, it’s a balmy -4c so why not???
Its quite an artistic town and known for its interesting graffiti but sadly we didnt see too much.
We see this guy all over Norway in his different guises
Did a lap of the city centre and pretty keen to be back on board, it is really cold.
Quiet old afternoon once back on board.
Couple of Rums on the back deck under the heaters but that was too cold as well.
Starting to do the rolling thing that ships often do during dinner, so happy to finish and scurry back to the safety of our room.
There are couple of late night landings tonight and one of them is in Svolvær, which i think is close the entrance to the most narrow fjord.
This little duck wont be there, still in recovery but stuart may. I’ll find out in the morning.
Just fantastic! Stay warm and well xx
